The City of Kitchener is a recognized leader in the provision and facilitation of Special Events. The City offers a full range of festivals, celebrations and events to benefit its citizens. The City either produces events in-house or partners with community and private organizations to deliver its event portfolio. Direct spending on events is well in excess of $1,000,000 annually and the economic spinoffs are in the millions of dollars.
The City is looking for a strategic manager to lead its Special Events division through a change process. You will be the champion of a vision that will support the development and implementation of the urban vitality strategy for the City and have responsibility for enhancing the downtown experience. In addition the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and growing the facility rental program for City Hall, Victoria Park and the Pavilion. | |
| Requirements |
The ideal candidate will have 2 plus years related experience and a 3 year degree/diploma in a related field such as marketing, recreation or event management. Experience leading staff is a requirement as you will be responsible for a team including full time, part time, interns and temporary employees.
The successful candidate will be high energy and growth focused in order to achieve the vision. As well, it will be imperative to build community and corporate involvement through developing and nurturing community contacts to grow the portfolio so experience in this regard is equally important.

In the event there is no successful applicant with the stated level of education and experience, other applicants will be considered if a combination of their education and experience meets the following pre-determined equivalency: 2 year diploma or 2 years in a specialized post-secondary program in a related field with a minimum 4 years experience or a 4 year honours degree with a minimum 1 year experience. |
